All You Need Yo Know About Repairing Brick Siding
There are very few materials on a house that never need repair. This maintenance process can take place a few years after the house is built and no matter how small it is always important that the homeowner knows what he is doing.
When it comes to repairing brick siding the type of brick structure will have to be taken into consideration before setting out to remove, unscrew and put in place again. For traditional bricks the most common signs that lead one to repair brick siding are: crumbled mortar, cracked mortar, shrink mortar, etc. When the issue is repairing mortar the only solution is removing the mortar and putting fresh mortar again- this is what is known as ''repointing''.
Repointing basically involves chipping away the damaged mortar by using a cold chisel and hammer and them dampening the area with water to accept the new mortar. A trowel can be used to pack the mortar that will be used in the slot that has been removed. After that put the new brick onto the new mortar and remove any excess with the trowel.
The overall process of repairing brick siding is not a tedious one, but care has to be taken to mix the mortar according to the specifications. It is also important to take note of any damaged areas that could facilitate the entrance of water into the structure. All steps much be taken to seal off areas that pose a risk when it comes to moisture.
For panels, tiles and interconnecting bricks these can be repaired by removing the damaged ones and using new ones to replace them. When mortar is used as a holding agent then the steps above apply.
