How Possible Is DIY Brick Siding?

Many homeowners resort to ''DIY brick siding'' over hiring someone to do it for them. This can stem from a list of reasons and some of the most popular ones that motivate many to take up the installation tools and forget contractors are: budget, familiarity with the siding being installed and the need to independent. Whatever the reason that motivates a homeowner to dispense the use of contractors, DIY brick siding is a possibility in some cases and the types of brick that is being installed is the deciding factor of this.

Natural brick siding is a complicated process and only qualified professionals are able to prepare the mortar according to specifications. Laying the bricks also requires a great deal of skill and this is not a normal one-man job that just about any homeowner can undertake. Incorrect proportions of sand, lime, cement and water can give rise to a mortar that cannot withstand the weight of the bricks and as such break away after a few months or years. This then causes even greater problems when snow and rainy seasons start as the build up of moisture in the wall can compromise the structure.

For panels and tiles, these are usually easier to handle and do not require great skills in getting them installed. The only caution here is paying careful attention to the manufacturer's instructions to avoid incorrect interlocking as in the case of interlocking brick siding. The right tools have to be bought as well to avoid complication during the installation process. Both maintenance and installation for DIY brick siding is possible, but this really depends on the type of brick that is installed.
